Unceded Coast Salish Territory: Grand Chief Stewart Phillip warns Kinder Morgan and the Trudeau government that Kinder Morgan's pipeline and tanker project “will never see the light of day.”

Recent announcements by Kinder Morgan indicate they plan to start brush clearing and other construction on private land to prepare for pipeline construction, even as the BC government scrambles to shut them down.

“On September 9 we will be marching in the streets of Vancouver to send a warning to Kinder Morgan and to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that this toxic, high risk Trans Mountain dirty oil pipeline project will never see the light of day and has no place on unceded territories of Indigenous Nations,” said Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, president of the Union of BC Indian Chiefs. “Industry and the Federal government must respect the Title and Rights of Indigenous Nations, as affirmed in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.”

The Trudeau government's promises to implement the recommendations of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People are meaningless while they continue to force risky, destructive mega-projects through unceded First Nations territory without consent.

"Smoky skies and massive hurricanes remind us sharply about the cost of climate chaos. The Grand Chief has called this pipeline our Standing Rock. We're telling Kinder Morgan and the Trudeau government to expect resistance," said Thomas Davies, Climate Convergence organizer. "We will stop this pipeline."

Kinder Morgan is a Houston-based energy giant formed from the rubble of Enron. It has no place endangering our communities. On Saturday September 9, local water protectors will channel the spirit of Standing Rock and demand public policy that prioritizes good clean green jobs and the protection of the environment for all, not profit for the very few.
