Jason Kenney's government has launched an inquiry into who funds groups that criticize Alberta’s oil industry.

Dear Mr. Kenny, I am an ordinary Canadian living in rural British Columbia. I have been involved in efforts to bring change to climate changing industry for 30 years. I support the Unistoten in central and northern BC in their opposition to pipelines going through their unceded territories. I am not funded by foreign interests. I am a 68 year old pensioner with no savings to speak of. I am prepared to be incarcerated if that is what it takes to save this beautiful planet from further destruction by the greed of the fossil fuel industry. I want whales in the Salish Sea, NOT tankers that pollute and kill with noise that confuses the whales and their food chain. And I am only one of a legion of individuals who call British Columbia home and do not want your filthy, soul destroying, climate changing, greedy, bullying fossil fuel pipeines running through my province.

Premier Kenny! Alberta bitumen sucks! It will not benefit my Province in any manor. In fact it threatens the very existence of many people and sensitive environments. It is a proven economical risk. It has the potential to destroy our tourist industry. I will never support this pipe dream having any part in crossing the indigenous territories and violating the rights of First Nations peoples. I stand with First Nations people unposed to pipelines across BC or oil tankers in the Salish Sea.

We watch from BC as you soil and ruin your province chasing profits that you are about 20 years behind the rest of the world. Just because you have this toxic oil doesn’t mean everyone else has to risk their environment to help you sell it. Stop being lazy and look ahead to what your province can do for the future. Oil is over, branch out and stop trying to bully others who value the environment.

I support many of the organizations that your fascism is targeting. We are many and we oppose your misinformation and manipulation of the public to further your own personal interests. Wasting money that can be used to aid the less fortunate and provide for many Albertan’s is the real crime. We are facing the sixth great extinction and you are frittering away my grandchildren’s future.

I was born in occupied Algonquin territory, raised in Treaty 7 Blackfoot territory, have lived in Treaty 13 territory (traditional lands of the Mississaugas, Anishnabeg, Chippewa, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples) and the occupied land of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation. I voted Liberal in the last federal election for no reason other than to help get rid of that dangerous asshole. I voted NDP in the provincial election because Horgan seemed to care about reconciliation before he invaded Wetsuweten land to force Northern Gateway through without free, prior and informed consent. Now I’m sick of all of you. I’m tired of bullshit. I’m trying to make the world a more comfortable place to live in for people like me, by taking away the power and platform of people like you. Can I invoice you for this? I mean, you’re paying for the investigation, so, like, is there an honorarium or something for participants? Like I said, having access to some of your “war chest” would really help me get this job done more efficiently by farming out some of the work.

The climate crisis is an international issue. I will happily work with anyone on the planet who will help deal with this crisis. If the tar sands is receiving $ from the Koch brothers – why can’t environmental groups receive financial support from enlightened US citizens who are helping to stop the extraction of fossil fuels?. We are all breathing the same air. I am a senior citizen who works as hard as I can towards saving this planet for the next generation. I receive no $ for any of my work. Rest assured – we will not stop …..in spite of your immoral threats.

I am 73 years old & retired, I oppose the #TMX pipeline due to the significant risks a spill will have on two of my three grandsons that live in Burnaby near the tank farm. Toxic tar sands oil has 102 times more copper, 21 times more vanadium, 11 times more sulfur / nickel, 6 times more nitrogen & 5 times more lead content than conventional oil. The heavy metals referenced above have specific gravity values of 8.96 for Copper, 6.11 for Vanadium, 2.07 for Sulfur, 8.90 for nickel & 11.34 for lead making this toxic mess heavier than water. it will sink to the bottom of fresh water rivers, streams & lakes and will sink in salt water causing significant damage to all that live in or near the pipeline or tank farm. Tar sand oil includes 30% content of condensate (drip gas) that when exposed to the atmosphere evaporates in a deadly gas form able to travel over 20 km’s before it dissipates. Condensate is highly explosive and contains the carcinogen benzene that causes cancer in land animals, marine wildlife & humans if ingested. A leak requires immediate evacuation of the area and at present an evacuation plan has not been submitted by #TMX for local residents or students / teachers from the Simon Fraser University campus on Burnaby Mountain. Existing holding tanks in the tank farm do not meet present earthquake requirements & there is no plan to upgrade them. This situation is a clear and present danger that the fire department of Burnaby has stated publicly that they are ill equipped to deal with in the event of a catastrophic fire or major spill. I am on a fixed income collect my CPP & OAS and contribute what I can to environmental groups that are working to oppose this pipeline. I have taken an oath with local first nations to do whatever it takes to prevent this pipeline from entering their territory. Mr Kenney you and your ‘Inquisition’ will fail in its attempt to expose how we as Canadian citizens oppose foreign oil companies intrusion through unceded first nations territories and our residential neighborhoods. The seven fold increase in tanker traffic threatens the very existence of our Southern Resident Killer Whales in the Salish Sea that was clearly spelled out in the NEB report. Given all of the above this pipeline will never be built.

Boy, I’d sure like some of those foreign funds. I have limited resources but I spend my time and money on trying to avert the ecocide that your leadership is helping to speed up.

I am fighting the TMX pipeline and supertankers because I have grandchildren and I want them to have a future on this beautiful coast and earth. We can walk to Burrard Inlet from our home and you have no right to come here to destroy our homeland and livelihoods. You are so greedy and you are a liar. You make things up to excuse your own greed and try to threaten us. It’s not going to work, Mr. Kenney. I have had conversations online with your hired trolls who are threatening people. You are a hired goon of the Koch Brothers. You are a bully and I will peacefully stand up to you.

I am a 67 year old great grandmother living on CPP and OAC in Garden Bay, B.C. NO ONE pays me to do anything! I donate because the time for fossil fuels is well past over, and we are in serious trouble as a planet because of its excessive and sloppy use for the last 100 years in all its forms. People who understand this are standing up, and speaking out because it is URGENT. Not because they are paid, unlike the fossil fuel companies which not only make billions per year, but receive subsidies from our government.

Shame on you, Mr. Kenney for taking this line and trying to attack and undermine the honest citizens of this country who are expressing their opinion. It is our constitutional right. This is a witch hunt, you have funded, Sir. McCarthy lives! Well here is my testimony:

Why are you so determined that the end of petroleum’s heyday should be marked by the wanton destruction of our beautiful country? Are you really that petty? Once we realize that the path we have followed so zealously leads only to death and destruction, the only sane response is to find a new path, and live.

I am fighting TMX because I was paying attention in science class and I am not fueled by greed.

It’s ordinary Canadians who are opposed to the continued expansion of the tar sands including pipe lines. Imagine acting for the good of people all over the world instead of oil and gas executives. Imagine being a true leader in a rapid green energy movement. Tick tock.
