Jason Kenney's government has launched an inquiry into who funds groups that criticize Alberta’s oil industry.

Whoever gets stuck with the trans mountain pipeline will regret it greatly as we are witnessing the painful slow death of a dying sector. Time to live for the future and embrace a caring, green economy. The science is in and extreme weather is already causing millions of dollars in damage and so much misery and it will only continue to worsen if we don’t make vast changes in how we conduct ourselves as an organized society. It’s too late for incremental changes. We can’t wait. We must heed the scientific evidence and do everything we can to slow climate change down. We can do this by working hard to restore biodiversity by planting native trees, native woody shrubs and native herbaceous plants on mass. This will create so many jobs too! We also need to protect what biodiversity we have left (just 23 percent worldwide) and CRIMINALIZE ECOCIDE. We need political leaders brave enough to take on this difficult challenge and not stick their heads in the sand and protect the status quo while the world burns.

We are sick of politicians being in the pockets of the oil Cartel, sick of the environmental toxic mess that is the tar sands. The Dilbit is not safe for ocean transit in our waters, it sinks if a spill occurs and cannot be cleaned up, same with our coastal pristine forests. And as far as I know there is no real market for it anyway.

Our country is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world. Forget fossil fuels!!! And while you’re at it, ban the Stampede, that shameful and cruel “cultural” event.

The oil and gas industry has ruined me and my family. We will never support your Alberta agenda.

Dear Premier Kenney,

I live in Burnaby, BC, just below the Trans Mountain tank farm. My husband and I are seniors and, I assure you, we have received no foreign funds- or any other funds – for trying to protect the home we’ve lived in for nearly four decades. Instead of being able to relax during my retirement years, I’m spending every spare moment trying to prevent the expansion of this dangerous diluted bitumen pipeline expansion.

I’m genuinely puzzled why you’re wasting millions of dollars on propaganda, when those funds could be used to retrain Albertans for clean energy jobs.

The toxic, tar sands have to be upgraded/refined into synthetic crude oil on the tar sands regions, before transporting, to prevent another Kalamazoo River disaster from happening anywhere. To understand the destructiveness of a tar sands spill, Google and read, “Michigan oil spill effects could be repeated here”, by Michelle Barlond-Smith. What happen to the Kalamazoo River, we do not want to happen to the Fraser River watershed.

Hands off our coast Jason Kenney!! Find another route! We have a right to protect our marine life!

I want a viable world for my grand children .I want a future for my grand children. ..I want Alberta to search for renewable energy sources…and move away from bitumen..the carbon tax was a good move…and I miss that extra on my GST cheques every 3 months.. but bottom line is I want a viable world..I am against more pipelines…we do not need them…

We don’t need more oil and gas, we need more clean, renewable energy. We don’t need more oil and gas infrastructure subsidized by taxpayers and owned by foreign corporations that provide few jobs and no profits for Canadians. There is no market for dirty, expensive bitumen because a larger supply of cleaner, cheaper bitumen is available from Dakota. The LOOP supertankers ship it faster and way cheaper. Even if there were a market for Alberta’s bitumen, which there isn’t, oil and gas extraction, shipping, storage, and use pour dangerous pollutants into our land, water, and air. If there are earthquakes, mistakes, broken equipment, spills, and/or leaks, the damage to our earth, air, and coast, with all of the creatures and flora that live here, will be devastating. Hell no, we won’t allow projects that pollute our precious planet and risk destroying our coast for the sake of profit for foreigners. There are safer, saner, more viable energy alternatives. Look at the many cities around the world that are now over 70% sustainable clean energy. Look at how many of these cities say it is cheaper and safer, and it provides more permanent jobs than oil and gas. Read about how the clean energy industry provides permanent jobs for Canadians, business opportunities for Canadians, and profits that stay in Canada — all without destroying the environment. For goodness sake, it’s time to invest in clean energy. Continuing to pollute the world we live in when climate change has reached this point is insane. Start investing some of that energy you are using to fight for the pipeline into a saner industry that will serve actual Canadians and our environment instead of serving foreign corporations and the 1%.

We are sick of our Prime Minister being in the pocket of oil producers! Your bitumen is not needed or wanted and we do not want any more pipelines crossing our province, putting our wilderness, wild life and coastline at risk! Alberta has never, and will never, pay for cleanups! We are disgusted that the second pipeline was passed and paid for with our tax dollars. This money could have been invested in renewables instead of an aging pipeline and one not yet completed! Alberta is a one product economy who, when prosperous, never offered to share their heritage fund! Your province has been complacent and short sighted for too long! We need solar, wind and water power, not uncleanable bitumen, and we do not want any more heavy tanker traffic in our fragile waterways?

Our battle. Our victory. Our resolve. Our vote. Our land.

I have lived on the BC coast for 40 years and I’ve worked in the fishing industry up and down the coast for many of those years. Having increased tanker traffic and eventual spills will devastate much of the environment. There are so many reasons why this pipeline should not be built and you know it! I will support any action to prevent this pipeline from happening, and no one funds me! Most, if not all who are against this ridiculous project are just regular people who know that climate change is real and know that we need our precious environment to survive.

You are the one foreign funded. You are doing the bidding for the Koch brothers. You sell out.

I donate and fight on my own dime. I have always worked and never been unemployment or on welfare. My taxes are always paid on time. I haven’t had even a traffic ticket, let alone been arrested. But I will fight this pipeline with all the energy I have and perhaps end up in jail with other good people of conscience.

Why don’t you read the science and stop your buffoonery? Lead Albert out of the billions it’s going to take to clean up the mess the industry is leaving. Be forward thinking instead of backwards.

Jason, you know full well the twining of the current TMX will not solve Alberta’s employment and lack of investment woes. Putting this unwanted thing in to 2 million people’s back yard all so Oil companies can circumvent American delays on the Keystone XL and Line 3 , while lying to everybody and saying its for export to Asia, is foolhardy, wrong minded, and giving Albertan’s false hope. If you were smart you’d jump on the LNG bandwagon with BC and give up tar mining as obsolete. By the way I oppose simply because it’s unnecessary with huge risk and NOBODY is paying me to say it.

Jason your brain is so diluted ( weakened by the addition of solvent) that you would put money in a higher priority than the mental health, and physical health of our children ! They are terrified of a dirty, deadly, black future, they feel helpless and alone, they are sleepless with fear. The un-repairable toxic mess in northern alberta where the toxic waste ponds are measured in square kilometers and are continuously wafting poisonous gases across the north unchecked and in some cases without warnings is despicable. These lakes of waste are also leaching into the ground water and the river, there are thousands of abandoned wells that will never get cleaned up, and you want to head west with this insidious path of destruction in your wake. What is going to happen when an out of control, intensely hot wildfire finds that GD pipeline, and with six to eight hundred a year the math says it will ! Well we don’t want your Insanity, our children don’t want your Insanity, our coast does not want your Insanity. Stay home and enjoy a dip in one of the ponds you think are not a problem !

this Pipeline is a environmental disaster in the making. For our future, the environment and all it’s inhabitants we can’t let this happen. BIG OIL has cause enough damage and it must stop now

Greetings Jason, my name is Jane LeBreton, and yes I am the mother of Marjory LeBreton’s grandchildren. Whom, by the way all live in BC coastal communities along with Marj’s great-grandson. Am I a foreign funded radical? Are her grandchildren/great grandchildren foreign funded radicals? I think not!


TMX threatens the health & safety of our communities, orcas, salmon, FN unceded lands and tramples on FN rights. UNDRIP.
I find it disturbing and quite frankly in poor taste that you are accusing concerned citizens & #FN communities of being foreign funded radicals. When the tarsands projects are owned and operated by the Koch brothers and serval international companies.


We are ordinary concerned citizens. We are not only concerned about the climate emergency, that is barreling down upon us, we are also concerned with the rights of FN, our endangered orcas, salmon and the complete lack of care or concern regarding the health and safety of the hundreds of thousands of people who live on Burnaby Mountain and surrounding areas. TMX could potentially have dire consequences for our population, air, water and land.


So if we are foreign funded radicals, where do I sign up? Because quite frankly, I have spent a lot of time, energy and yes, my own funds (thousands of dollars) trying to stop this reckless, dangerous project.


So, before you start throwing around your propaganda and rhetoric accusing concerned citizens of being “foreign funded radicals.” Get your facts straight.

Alberta is the one which is funded by US money. Oil companies do not lobby killer whales, but they probably lobby the Alberta Gov.

The Trans Mountain pipeline will be the biggest white elephant in the history of Canada! China doesn’t have refineries capable of refining bitumen and as they get their cheaper light sweet crude from the Saudis there’s never going to be a market there. It will take 25 years to pay off the pipeline’s cost if the pipeline was running at capacity! As the world weans itself off of carbon fuels it will be awash in cheaper oil so it will never make a profit on the bitumen and that’s why the private sector wasn’t interested in buying the pipeline in the first place! I won’t get into the oil sand’s environmental and carbon footprint which is horrendous! Premier Kenny, either open your eyes to the obvious or just crawl back into your cave!

Citizens of British Columbia are teaming up against You Trudeau and this PIPELINE!!! We are many and getting larger!!! Angela here 58 years young and born n raised in British Columbia. To Save n Protect for Our Children Our Land n Water Our Province and Canada…This is a World Wide Emergency Climate Action and we all have to come out with the same reults!!! After reading Unsettling Canada by Arthur Manuel, I am actively standing with and supporting First Nations fighting TMX. One of many Sinister Seniors! (If you have not heard that moniker, ask Judge Affleck).


Mr Kenney, when Canada is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world and our emissions have been INCREASING in recent years, isn’t it insanity to continue with business as usual? Imagine if we used fossil fuel subsidies and the upwards of $15 billion that will be the total price for TMX to transition tar sands workers to the renewable energy industry where they do not have to compromise their health.


It no doubt will take huge guts on your part to stand up to these foreign corporations that dictate Canada’s energy policies, but you have to put the well-being of the entire planet ahead of corporate greed.

CLIMATE CHANGE IS A FUTURE PROBLEM


This is no longer an excuse not to act on climate change and push the burden onto future generations. Last year, the world’s leading climate scientists warned we only have 12 years to limit global warming to a maximum of 1.5C and avoid climate breakdown.


We’re already seeing the devastating effects of climate change on global food supplies, increasing migration, conflict, disease, and global instability, and this will only get worse if we don’t act now. Man-made climate change is the biggest environmental crisis of our time. It threatens the future of the planet that we depend on for our survival and we’re the last generation that can do something about it.


Canada deserves a Green New Deal, not more fossil fuel projects.


It is our basic responsibility to support Indigenous struggles. Indigenous people worldwide are on the frontline against resource developments that are pushing our biosphere to the brink of climate and ecological collapse.

We don’t want your filthy bitumen risking OUR environment, our lifestyle, our tourism, OUR industry…We are not ‘foreign’ funders…We are British Columbians, Canadians who care about our environment, our economy, our future. Deal with it.

Protesting another pipeline is not about not wanting Alberta to prosper. It is about not sacrificing BC’s economy for a bad investment and dying industry. Alberta workers are not pro oil, they are pro good paying jobs-aren’t we all? Invest in sustainable energy, in crops coming to the forefront and needing expansion. Please don’t make enemies of fellow Canadians. Be smart-be progressive.
