To Prime Minister Trudeau,
Canada cannot afford to invest in this pipeline—not because we don’t have the funds, but because the returns on this kind of investment would: increase the rate of climate change progression and all the associated financial and human capital costs; degrade the west coast and all the marine life it supports; undermine Indigenous rights to protect their territory; mark an abandonment of any pretence of government acting in the best interests of citizens. Canadians deserve investments in energy projects that support health and well-being in the long term and contribute to the transition to safe and renewable energy.
I, Lorraine Smith-Collins, could have concurred with all of the voices that have left you, Justin Trudeau, advice on how the people of Canada wish you to proceed on Pipelines/oil & gas, and their Companies. I have included 3 voices (above) plus mine:
I am Mi’kmaq from Hantsport, Nova Scotia and a member of Glooscap First Nation. I do not support nor do I want my tax dollars…yes, I pay taxes, invested in any pipelines/oil/gas production on the WESTCOAST, or the EASTCOAST, or our NORTHERNCOAST for that matter. You Sir, have an obligation to consult with First Nation Peoples…and we will hold you to that obligation! Invest in only SUSTAINABLEENERGIES! ACTRESPONSIBLY!

I greatly resent Kinder Morgan calling the shots in my country. I am ABSOLUTELYOPPOSED TO ANYFINANCIALGUARANTEES TO KINDERMORGANANDITSSHAREHOLDERS!!! It is an American company. Presumably many of its shareholders are American, also. As shareholders they presumably have sufficient funds to risk in investment. I don’t and I’m a tax paying Canadian citizen. I’ve always heard the adage ‘if you don’t have it to lose, don’t risk it’. When did government start guaranteeing investors profits? I’m horrified that you would go this far to ram this down the throats of British Columbia especially as your treatment of Quebec was very different.
I greatly resent being bullied by Alberta and the Government of Canada who seem to disregard and disrespect the legitimate concerns of BC.
Not for the first time do I feel like a second class citizen in Canada by virtue of the fact that I live in BC. Not for the first time do I feel that the “national interest” and “all Canadians” exist east of the Rockies.
Do you really want to introduce legislation to give yourself more power? That is not the Canada I want or will vote for.
You may find that a lot of British Columbians are willing to bite the bullet and become leaders in climate change action, something you promised if the Liberals were elected. Well you were but you haven’t walked your talk to the extent you lead us to believe.
With great disappointment in your decisions here and for missed opportunities for real climate change action,

Into this humongous cooking pot: No proper thoughts for indigenous input; no proper thoughts of consideration for including indigenous people in talks and environmental assessments, no consideration for the damage to the eco-system on Burnaby Mountain due the tankers and pipelines loaded to the gills with oil and gas for the site, This all equals to a likelihood of a Molotov cocktail in a severe eco-destruction on the mountain; better not risk it.

Stop investing in and subsidizing big oil, and start building renewable infrastructure! We are already starting to see the effects of climate change. Most known and extractable coal, oil and gas, including most Canadian tar sands, all Arctic oil and gas and much potential shale gas, must be left IN THEGROUND if the global temperature rise is to be kept under the 2C safety limit agreed by the world’s nations. Currently, the world is heading for a catastrophic 5C of warming.

They owe us for for their bullish tactics of ignoring our laws and working WITHOUT all the necessary permits. Since when does dictatorship become the norm in Canada. Enough!!!! Mr. Prime Minister,
Can you please address the following news reports out of eolas magazine from Ireland (eolasmagazine.ie) stating the following:
“Plans are afoot to import LNG from Texas to Ireland, via the Port of Cork, which could account for up to one third of Ireland’s natural gas requirements.
NextDecade, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) development company focused on export projects in the State of Texas, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with the Port of Cork Company to advance a joint business development opportunity in Ireland for a new Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) and associated LNG import terminal infrastructure.
Under the terms of the MOU, the potential development at the Port of Cork would receive LNG from NextDecade’s planned Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG) project in South Texas. The development would provide competitively priced energy solutions to Ireland and its regional partners under long-term contracts. If constructed, the project would substantially increase and diversify Ireland’s supply of natural gas.
The MOU commits the parties to undertake exclusive negotiations to develop the LNG import project. The Port of Cork is a sheltered, natural deep water harbour capable of handling large liquids and cargo ships of all sizes.
NextDecade’s RGLNG project is located in close proximity to associated and stranded gas resources in the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford Shale. RGLNG and its associated Rio Bravo Pipeline, originating in the Agua Dulce market area, are well-positioned among the second wave of U.S. LNG projects. NextDecade believes the Port of Cork facility could support imports of up to 3 mtpa from RGLNG."
Sir, I am wondering what this report has to do with the Trans Mountain pipeline of Kinder Morgan. Will you please clarify for us? Thank you.

I’m so angry I could scream.
Two years ago, the Trudeau Liberals promised to end subsidies for oil companies.
Now they’re willing to give billions of taxpayer dollars to pipeline executives in Texas.
It can’t happen! They have to come to their senses!
This is our money, and Trudeau wants to shovel it into a doomed oil tanker project run by former corrupt Enron executives.
Kinder Morgan pipelines explode and kill people. That’s just a fact. The company was convicted on six felony counts in California for killing five workers.
This is a greedy, dangerous corporation that regularly breaks the law – including in B.C.
Are we seriously going to pay them to load toxic bitumen onto foreign oil tankers on the B.C. coast? To violate First Nations’ rights? To put our kids’ future at risk?
We should be suing oil companies instead of giving them money. Make them pay for all the environmental issues that are increasingly being felt like floods, fires, etc.
Oil companies have knowingly been moving civilization towards world extinction so they can make a dollar.
Our politicians should be charged with corruption and betrayal of public trust, endangering the public health and welfare. They clearly have been helping oil companies to continue while giving them corporate welfare.
Enough is enough!

Absolutely not! It’s time to invest in renewable, safe, clean energy! No more oil.
The thought of our government bailing out an American company who to date has been reckless with BC lands and waters and threatens the livelihoods of thousands of British Columbians in order to continue a project that BC does not support, absolutely boils my blood. Spending $2Billion dollars of Canadian taxpayers money to ram through an ill-fated dinosaur project through First Nations lands when legitimate scientific safety or environmental assessments have not even been considered, nevermind completed, should be viewed as an unconstitutional and criminal act by our Federal government. This has nothing to do with the project being in the ‘best interests of Canada’, this is a political move and nothing more. I am ashamed of our Prime Minister.
So since this pipeline Will Never Be Built . . . I wonder if Kinder will return our tax monies to us so they can be invested into sensible, relevant, long term energy projects? lol

Invest in Canadians, not a Texas company that’s part of a dying industry, especially when there are alternatives. This is highly offensive Trudeau. The people are not happy. There are some many areas that CANADIANS need money put towards – veterans, clean water for indigenous communities, housing, renewable energy.
